Blue Heart Sunshine Coast receives award

Project awarded through the Cities Power Partnership.

In 2020 the Blue Heart Sunshine Coast was recognised at the Cities Power Partnership (CPP) Climate Awards. The project received the award for Regional Innovation Project of the Year. This award recognises transformative climate solutions. It acknowledges the Blue Heart's intent to manage climate change impacts.

Blue Heart project is an area of more than 5,000 hectares within the Maroochy River floodplain. This project area is impacted by tidal inundation. With predicted sea level rise, it is expected the area will continue to transition from rural lands to estuarine wetlands. The Blue Heart project seeks to manage this transition in a sustainable manner. The project will also provide positive environmental, economic and recreational outcomes. The CPP is a national program run by the Climate Council. Sunshine Coast Council, along with 138 other councils, make up the CPP network. Together, these council's are working in partnership to tackle climate change.
