Planning today for a resilient tomorrow

Sippy Downs scores 44 new street trees.

Did you know our region is already one of the greenest in Queensland, with 57% of land covered by trees?

In April 2025, Council planted 44 new street trees in Sippy Downs as part of our ongoing effort to enhance the urban environment.

Planting trees in built-up areas helps:

  • Reduce heat and keep streets cooler
  • Absorb carbon and release oxygen
  • Manage stormwater load and
  • improve resilience to climate change.

The Sunshine Coast Street Tree Master Plan 2018 guides how we select, plant, and care for street trees to grow and protect our canopy over time.

Council is looking for tree custodians to care for young street trees. Learn more about how you can get involved and view our street tree maintenance plan.
