Protecting our coast
Updated plan to help protect our beaches, dunes and coastal communities.
The Sunshine Coast is known for its beautiful beaches and coastal areas. These places are important to our lifestyle, environment, and local economy.
Council is committed to maintaining healthy and resilient beaches and sand dunes. As the coastline continues to change, particularly due to erosion and climate impacts, Council is actively improving its management practices to protect and sustain these vital natural areas.
To help protect the coast, Council has developed the Shoreline Erosion Management Plan 2025–2035. This plan updates the original 2014 version and looks ahead to the next 10 years. It explains how erosion happens, which Council assets are at risk, and what actions to take to manage erosion.
The Plan focuses on specific locations across the region. It uses science, engineering, and community feedback to decide the best ways to protect public land and infrastructure like parks, pathways, and roads. By planning ahead and working together, we can keep the Sunshine Coast’s shoreline healthy, safe, and enjoyable for everyone now and into the future.
