The Queensland winners of the Planning Institute of Australia’s (PIA) Awards for Planning Excellence 2020 have been announced with the strategy taking home an award.

Council’s Environment and Liveability Strategy was recognised at the 2020 PIA Qld Awards for Planning Excellence receiving a Commendation award under the improving planning processes and practices’ category.

The improving planning processes and practices award recognises initiatives that takes planning policy and strategy into practice and in doing so achieves a great planning outcome.

The Environment and Liveability Strategy replaced six key long-term strategies providing an integrated approach across multiple themes to shape and support growth over the next 25 years - to deliver a healthy environment and liveable Sunshine Coast .

Now in its fifth year of implementation, the strategy continues to deliver on its objectives and is a great example of forward thinking and real actions – taking advantage of opportunities today, while looking ahead to 2041 to create a legacy that will benefit our community for many years to come.

Sunshine Coast Council acknowledges the Sunshine Coast Country, home of the Kabi Kabi peoples and the Jinibara peoples, the Traditional Custodians, whose lands and waters we all now share.
We commit to working in partnership with the Traditional Custodians and the broader First Nations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) community to support self-determination through economic and community development.
