‘Critical link’ secured for rare and threatened species

Wildlife corridor link established and habitat protected for threatened and key species.

Environment Levy funds have supported the purchase of a 150-hectare property at Peregian Beach. The property was purchased under a joint funding partnership between Sunshine Coast Council and the Queensland Government.

The site comprises key coastal habitat for a number of species. These species include the koala, ground parrot, glossy black-cockatoo, wallum froglet and the tusked frog.

The property forms an important connection between Doonan Wetland Nature Refuge and Noosa National Park and assists to further protect the Maroochy-Noosa Wallum Area. Also protected is the endangered Emu Mountain She-oak, a rare shrub only found in a limited area between Noosa and Beerburrum.

This conservation area will allow visitors to connect with these protected species in their natural habitat while ensuring our community continues to foster its unique biodiversity.
