Sunshine Coast Open Data Expo

Building our knowledge in our natural environment.

An action in our Environment and Liveability Strategy is to enhance partnerships and initiatives with community to grow our collective knowledge.

A great example of this is the Sunshine Coast Open Data Expo which was held in June 2024. The theme was citizen science and held at Doonan Creek Environment Reserve. The event provided an opportunity for researchers to partner with citizen scientists to increase scientific knowledge, collect data and share stories on many different topics in our environment through:

  • Inspiring speakers
  • First Nations perspective
  • Citizen science workshops
  • Interactive exhibits.

More than 200 attendees had the opportunity to see and experience the creative ways we are monitoring and protecting our biosphere and explored how they can contribute through citizen science.
