Disaster management

Council’s Plan to keep community disaster ready.

Council’s Local Disaster Management Plan (Plan) was adopted in 2023 to help Council deliver a coordinated emergency response to disaster management and community support.

The plan provides procedures for a disaster or emergency on the Sunshine Coast to ensure:

  • effective and coordinated planning
  • preparedness
  • response and recovery.

The goal of the plan is for a speedy return to a safe and secure environment as soon as possible.

In 2024 the Plan was updated following a number of changes to ensure it remains up to date and reflects changes to legislative and structure reform within the Queensland Disaster Management Arrangements (QDMA) and the Sunshine Coast Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) structure.

Disaster management is a shared responsibility between all levels of government, private industry, non-government organisations and the community.
