Council scores major sport and recreation park goal

Land acquisition at Bli Bli critical step in delivering future sport and recreation precinct.

Council has secured a 37 hectare parcel of land that will be set aside for a future major sport and recreation precinct at Bli Bli, just north of the Maroochy River. The strategic land acquisition on Oyster Bank Road lies adjacent to 97 hectares that Council previously purchased for the project in 2021.

The planned sport and recreation precinct is a major long-term strategic project that aims to foster healthy communities while supporting floodplain management in the Blue Heart. The project, which is still in the early planning stages, is aimed at helping Council reach its Environment and Liveability Strategy target of maintaining five hectares of sport and recreation space per 1000 residents.

The land was purchased in line with Council’s Local Government Infrastructure Plan, with a significant financial contribution made by developers through Infrastructure Charges to provide for future major recreation parks and sportsgrounds.
