5. Being prepared

Build resilience by planning for the potential impacts of climate change and natural hazards.

Anticipating and proactively responding to a changing climate and natural hazards to build community resilience.

Our climate is changing. Recent climate projections indicate we should expect to see an increase in impacts such as more intense storms and flooding, higher temperatures and prolonged heatwaves, greater bushfire risk and increasing sea levels.

These impacts have the potential to affect the way we live, our prosperity and the health of our environment.

Growing the regions resilience to climate impacts will require proactive individual and collective action that is flexible and able to accommodate change.

To do this, we plan to:

  • develop an organisational wide Climate Change Adaptation Framework covering all climate hazards
  • develop and implement a Coastal Hazard Adaptation Strategy in partnership with our community
  • build community capacity to take individual and collective action, including access to information
  • align climate adaptation and disaster resilience.
