In line with council's Environment and Liveability Strategy and the Open Space Network Blueprint, construction has commenced on a new $5 million sports complex in Nirimba, Aura.
Set to be completed in early 2021, the seven and a half hectare Nirimba District Sports Park will be home to a range of future sporting teams and consist of four full-size rugby fields, four netball courts, two cricket fields with practice nets and shaded spectator seating. Lighting on the main rugby field and netball court will provide the ability for day and night games, and complement the growing range of health and wellbeing facilities in the area.
The start of construction marks the next step in delivering a network of sports parks required to maintain a healthy environment and liveable Sunshine Coast in 2041 for future generations.
The delivery of the sports park is made possible through an infrastructure agreement between council and the major developer. Through the agreement, land and facilities that meet resident's needs can be delivered in a timely manner as the Aura community continues to grow.
The open space network being planned through council's Environment and Liveability Strategy ensures equitable access to a range of experiences to encourage active and healthy lifestyles and supports community wellbeing. By strategically expanding the Sunshine Coast's green spaces, council is securing and activating space for future generations, improving conservation, and encouraging sport and recreation opportunities.
